Today's Doggie in Argentina, A Dog's life dispatch, We examin the sacred animal

We examine this dog's life dispatch on walks through the urban center. It is noncontroversial. We examine the sacred animal of the urban street as a shared walker. This is a daily meditation.

There are cats mind you. Most of them are attached to shops or malls. Most are active mousers. But, the Dog rules our public life. He is in all intersections. He sleeps mid-sidewalk and we side step him from all angles as we sidestep each other in tiny gauntlets of thin and obstructed public ways.

Doggie Dog life - Santiago

Doggie Dog life - Santiago.

It all started in Santiago.

We were in front of the Presidential Palace. One of S.America's interminable national holiday weekends. In Santiago the dogs run free, fat, and happy - and apparently under the fierce protection of the Presidential guard free, fat, and happy and under the eye of machine guns!

Today's Doggie Dog life dispatch - they are a sacred animal to the Chilean pedestrian. It would seem that perhaps a government agencies supplies well mannered citizens with universal uniform red bowls for sanitary water and feeding.

The beasts are not beasts. Far from it! Except if you are a car.

Sacred protectors of the pedestrian. Guardians of peace for the presidency. Rim haters! They are at peace with the peace of the big southern city. They are symbols of gentility, gentleness, comfort, even non-shrugged upon defecation and active defalcation on our shared commons and public space. Unlike North American dogs there is not the roaming pack of angry survivors.

Maybe there is? And maybe there is another side of Santiago to the Chilean pedestrian? Maybe.
